How to care for fine pieces, gently

2026-04-02 · 4 min read

A short guide to washing, drying, and storing your intimates so they last for years.

A bra is a piece of engineering. Wires, hooks, fabric, elastic, thread — all working together to do one quiet job. With a little care, a good bra lasts years. Without it, even the best piece fails in months.

Here is what we recommend.

Wash by hand. Cool water, a drop of mild detergent, a gentle squeeze — never a wring. Five minutes, twice a week, is enough.

Avoid the machine if you can. If you must, use a mesh bag, the gentlest cycle, cool water only. Never with jeans or towels.

Dry in shade. Lay flat or hang by the band — never by the straps. Direct sun damages elastic. Heat from a dryer kills it.

Rest your bras. Don't wear the same bra two days in a row. Elastic needs 24 hours to recover its shape. Three good bras worn in rotation last twice as long as one worn every day.

Store them flat. Don't fold one cup inside the other — it creases the foam. Stack them flat in a drawer, or stand them on edge.

A piece looked after gently will look after you in return.
